> Seven platforms where an AI agent can upload data, train and compare models, read evaluation metrics and get predictions entirely through an API — compared from their documentation, including which offer MCP servers.

**Short answer:** An AI agent can build predictive models end to end through the APIs of SageMaker Autopilot, Vertex AI, Azure Machine Learning, DataRobot, H2O Driverless AI, BigQuery ML and YourCloudGroup Model Manager. They differ in authentication, whether calls can be safely retried, whether an MCP server exists, and how much they check before a model's score is trusted. Facts from each vendor's documentation, checked 19 October 2026.
**Several platforms let an AI agent build a predictive model with no human in the loop**: upload a table, train and compare models, read the evaluation, and serve predictions, all through an API. This comparison covers seven of them — Amazon SageMaker Autopilot, Google Vertex AI, Azure Machine Learning, DataRobot, H2O Driverless AI, Google BigQuery ML and [YourCloudGroup Model Manager](https://yourcloudblog.com/model-manager/) — for **classification and regression on tabular data**, using only what each vendor's documentation says, checked on 19 October 2026.

Being *callable* is the easy part. What matters for an unattended agent is whether calls can be retried safely, whether long jobs can be followed, and whether the platform checks the things an agent cannot see for itself — such as a column that leaks the answer.

## The comparison

| Platform | Data in | Train and compare | Metrics | Predictions | Auth | Long jobs | Safe retries (idempotency) | MCP server |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **SageMaker Autopilot** (`CreateAutoMLJobV2`) | Points to files in S3 | Yes, with candidate leaderboard | Yes | Yes (auto-deployed endpoint or batch) | AWS IAM | Poll job status | Job names must be unique; no client token | AWS's SageMaker AI MCP server manages HyperPod clusters only — no AutoML tools |
| **Google Vertex AI** (AutoML tabular) | Yes (datasets API) | Yes (training pipelines) | Yes, with slices | Yes (online and batch) | Google IAM / OAuth | Long-running operations | Not documented | Official remote MCP server can list, upload and predict with models — **no training tool** |
| **Azure Machine Learning** (automated ML) | Yes (data assets) | Yes (child trials) | Yes | Yes (deploy to endpoint) | Microsoft Entra ID | Poll job status | Not documented | Azure MCP Server lists no AutoML tool |
| **DataRobot** | Yes | Yes (Autopilot, leaderboard) | Yes, plus ROC and feature impact | Yes (deployments, batch) | API token | Poll status URL | Not documented | **Yes** — an official MCP template covering upload, Autopilot, model comparison, metrics, deployment and batch prediction |
| **H2O Driverless AI** (Python client) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Credentials / token | Async calls | Not documented | None found for Driverless AI |
| **BigQuery ML** (SQL) | Tables in BigQuery | `CREATE MODEL` (several model types, including AutoML) | `ML.EVALUATE` | `ML.PREDICT` | Google IAM / OAuth | Query jobs | Not documented | Official remote MCP server runs SQL, with a 3-minute query limit and 3,000-row results |
| **YourCloudGroup Model Manager** (REST) | Yes, with a **dry-run split** that returns a `proposal_hash` before anything is written | Yes — asynchronous 12-variant tournament | Yes — a certificate of 14 claims | Yes, including scoring past predictions against outcomes that arrive later | API key | Polling with progress logs | **Yes** — `Idempotency-Key` on build, train and predict | Not listed on its published pages |

### What the differences mean for an agent

- **Retries:** an agent's connection can drop mid-call. Where safe retries are documented (Model Manager's `Idempotency-Key`), a retry cannot create a duplicate model. Elsewhere, the agent has to check before retrying — for example, by looking up the job name on SageMaker.
- **MCP servers:** the Model Context Protocol lets an assistant use a tool without custom code. Among these platforms, **DataRobot's MCP template is the only one that documents the whole loop** from data upload to prediction. Google's Vertex AI and BigQuery servers cover part of it; AWS's and Azure's servers documented today do not cover AutoML.
- **Long jobs:** model training takes minutes to hours. Every platform here runs it asynchronously; the agent polls for status.

## What an agent cannot check for itself

An agent sees the numbers an API returns. It cannot easily see whether those numbers deserve trust. Four checks decide that:

1. **Leakage screening** — is any column recorded after the outcome? One leaked column lifted a model's score from 0.81 to 0.96 in [a measured example](https://yourcloudblog.com/blog/what-is-target-leakage/). DataRobot documents automatic leakage screening; so does Model Manager.
2. **A sealed test set** — was the score measured on data that played no part in choosing the model? See [held-out evaluation](https://yourcloudblog.com/blog/what-is-held-out-model-evaluation/).
3. **The right metric** — on rare outcomes, accuracy rewards the wrong model; see [balanced accuracy vs. accuracy](https://yourcloudblog.com/blog/balanced-accuracy-vs-accuracy/).
4. **Repeatability** — does the same input give the same output every time?

## Where YourCloudGroup Model Manager fits

[YourCloudGroup Model Manager](https://yourcloudblog.com/model-manager/) was designed for agents: the dry-run split lets an agent review exactly what will be committed; a changed file is refused with `409 ARTIFACT_CHANGED` rather than silently used; and the certificate tells the agent — in machine-readable claims — what was proven and what was not, including "not assessed" where the data cannot support a claim. An AI agent has driven the full lifecycle end to end on 77,299 rows of real data; see [the model platform that told us the truth](https://yourcloudblog.com/blog/the-model-platform-that-told-us-the-truth/) and the [guide for AI agents](https://yourcloudblog.com/for-ai-agents/).

It is narrower than the cloud platforms: tabular classification and regression only, on a dedicated server per subscription, with the full API reference served on each customer's server rather than published.

## Limitations of this comparison

- Facts come from each vendor's documentation on 19 October 2026; APIs and MCP servers change quickly, so follow the sources.
- "Not documented" means the documentation did not describe the feature, not that it is impossible.
- We have not run the same agent against every platform, so this article makes no claim about which is fastest or most accurate.
- YourCloudGroup publishes this blog and sells Model Manager.
